It's been a while but let me fill in a few blanks for those who were part of the FC BBS scene.
I was on Magic back when it was dialup though I also ran and still run a FC site called newsroom. I think back then anything going through the gateway would have been tagged kevinadministrator though on Magic I would have been using my real name.
The other big site was TVO online run by Ted Brunt and Brian Elston. Brian retired from TVO and I hooked up with him a last year at a MAUSE meeting and he put me in touch with Ted.
I noticed mention of Sanctuary BBS which was run by Michael Hainsworth, same Michael Hainsworth who now does the ROB reports on CTV.
Another site was Deep Blue run by Rob Matthews who now does computer consulting.
I remember meeting up with a few Magic folks years ago, FA Lenny, and Hive (from Matrix).
I vividly remember Mark's pride and joy his new Red Toyota.
The link to Ken Campbell's (KKC) article on the Doctors sure brought back memories, especially for those of us who were admins of the local sites. What a PITA those characters were though I think HIVE got it the worse.
Granted my 'favourite' was Earl G Curley and I'm shocked to see that he still brings up a web page,
http://chesswanks.com/pxp/ecfaq.html and I'm mentioned in it. The one other thing that I recall from back then are the number of fake users some of these characters were using in order to reinforce their positions. Sad.
KKC wrote articles for our Fast Forward section right up until we decided to pull the plug not sure if it was management or if Rob finally got bored with the idea. Last I hear from Ken he was in law school....
As for screen grabs, I still have the settings files for all of the local FC BBS' of the time. With FirstClass you imbedded all the graphics, sounds and icons within the settings files and the server mapped everything to your desktop to reduce download overhead. The oldest settings files were edited using ResEdit while later versions of the server used a custom editing tool.
That was kind of the fast and dirty version of FC in TO....
